In May 2008 Barry and Margaret Mizen's 16-year -old son Jimmy was attacked and killed at a bakers shop in south east London

In 1996, in response to a stabbing in a school playground, the school's headmaster asked Patrick Regan, a local church based youth worker, to come into the school and work with their students and teachers to help with difficult behavioural issues.
This was the beginning of XLP, a Christian charity that has an emphasis on being faith-based, but not faith-biased: XLP works equally with young people of all faiths and none.
Those who work at XLP share a common passion: to serve the community by meeting the social, educational and behavioural needs of young people,
and empowering them to make wise lifestyle choices and to realise their potential

WORD 4 WEAPONSWord 4 Weapons is a Christian based organisation started by Michael Smith in 2007,
after several years of seeing too many young lives being lost to gun and knife crime.
Weapons were, and still are being openly used on our streets leaving individuals in fear, injured or killed.
Something different had to be done to bring back the true value of life to a society that is becoming numb to violent crime.

"Ask the young people to swap their weapons for one of ours".
The Bible says in 2 Corinthians 10:3-5;
"The weapons we fight with are not the weapons of the world.
On the contrary, they have divine power to demolish strongholds".
It was on the basis of this principle that Word for Weapons was formed.
There are several strands to this programme;
.Providing guidance to young people, their parents and guardians.
.Working in partnership with organisations who share our aim.
.Providing secure bins where weapons can be deposited.
